This month we’re taking a look at the Austin Farmer’s Market at the Triangle in north central Austin. This particular market has only been happening since 2007, but the organizers already have a lineup of about 50 booths expected each Wednesday evening this summer.
When I visited one recent balmy springtime evening, the atmosphere was unmistakably relaxed and welcoming. Kids were playing in the grassy area called Triangle Park, happy music was piping out from the bandstand, and I even spotted a pink poodle hanging out with a feisty little pug. The people-watching at a farmer’s market is often as big a draw as the food, and on this count the Triangle Market did not fail!
But of course, the food is what really brought me out to the Triangle. There were about twenty stands providing everything from local, hand-made soap to fresh herbs grown in a local high school’s garden to warm baked bread and soup. I particularly enjoyed Harvest Time’s homemade jams and jellies, all 27 varieties of which were available to sample. I went bonkers over the peach pecan amaretto jam, the raspberry chipotle jam and the spiced banana butter.
Hailing from just up the road in Canyon Lake, TX, the makers of Harvest Time jams and jellies use tons of local ingredients including fresh Hill Country peaches in all of their peach varieties. I would highly recommend taking home a few jars of these delightfully yummy treats—they don’t use any preservatives, artificial flavors or corn syrup, they’re delicious, and in buying them you’ll be supporting a great local business.
Now that you have the inside scoop, make sure to get yourself out to the Triangle on Wednesdays for a few hours of fun, food and frolicking in the park. Here’s everything you need to know:
